In a move sure to drive a dagger into the heart of its customer service oriented model, Best Buy Co Inc is cutting 2,400 jobs from its Geek Squad and store positions. The cuts are seen as a targeted cutback to its Geek Squad in particular as they represent 1.5% of its total workforce, but 3% of the Geek Squad. These layoffs are in addition to all of the jobs that were cut when the chain cut 50 of its superstores, and are part of the overhaul plan announced in March.
